‘Idol’ producer praises Justin Bieber

American Idol‘s executive producer Cecile Frot-Coutaz has described Justin Bieber as “phenomenal” and a “real inspiration” to younger viewers.

The ‘Baby’ star is one of the celebrities who has been lined up to perform on this week’s two-hour Idol Gives Backextravaganza, which airs on Wednesday night.

The producer was asked during a conference call with reporters why Bieber’s performance had been pre-taped and why he was not approached to perform live in an earlier episode.

“All the decisions are a matter of balance, and it’s a matter of scheduling the various performances that we have in the best way possible. So more specific, because you know we have themes every week, depending on our theme, we’ll have a mentor,” she explained.

“Depending on the theme and the mentor, we’ll have performances that suit our organics of the results show.”

She continued: “Other people who want to be on Idol like Justin, Idol Gives Back was a good night for him to be in because he’s obviously phenomenal and he’s young and he’s a real inspiration for the young generation. So it was a really good really good fit for him to be in that special episode.”

American Idol continues tomorrow night at 8/7c on Fox, and Idol Gives Back airs the following night at 8pm.
